The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) receives its October half salary from the Buhari-led federal government.

The payment is referred to by the union as a crippled and amputated October salary.

According to information gathered by Mandy News, the salary is for 18 working days in the month of October.

Professors and high-ranking ASUU members who spoke to Punch News in absolute confidence said that the government only paid half salaries.

In a statement released by Dele ASHIRU, Chairman, ASUU-UNILAG, “it states that the leadership of the union at the national level has been duly informed about the unfortunate development and they are on top of the issue.”

The chairman referred to the Buhari administration as being wicked.

“Members are please enjoined to remain calm and await further directives from the National Secretariat even in the face of this bracing provocation and crass wickedness by this administration,” he said.

A top National Executive Council member said during a media interview:

  • “We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received a half salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike.”

Another member who was present during the interview said:

  • “Yes, it is true, I received half salary. It seems the government is set to kill unionism in the country but we are ready for them.”
