Former Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist unleashed a fervent critique of the officiating in the aftermath of the Glasgow Derby Scottish Cup Final, during which Celtic clinched a 1-0 victory thanks to a last-minute goal by Adam Idah.

McCoist’s remarks came after a VAR review by referee Nick Walsh, which reversed a goal for Rangers due to a foul on Celtic’s goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, McCoist expressed his frustration with the decision, labelling the officiating as “incomPetent” and “embarrassing.”

He argued that while there was a shove on Hart, which he conceded could warrant a disallowance of the goal, he vehemently disagreed with the lack of a penalty call for what he perceived as a preceding foul by Celtic’s Greg Taylor on Rangers’ Nicolas Raskin.

“The incomPetence of our officials is nothing short of ridiculous, Jeff,” McCoist said. “It’s bordering on embarrassing. They disallow the goal for a shove. Okay. They might have been a little shove, I can understand that. But they go back two seconds. They’ve got to give a penalty. The boy’s [Greg Taylor] got his arms wrapped around the guy [Nicolas Raskin] who eventually does the little shove.”

While McCoist argued for a penalty due to the interaction between Taylor and Raskin, officials and several pundits have pointed out that such holding is commonplace in set-piece situations across Football matches and rarely results in penalties unless it significantly impacts an opponent’s ability to play the ball.

Bobby Madden said he showed the footage to six referees who all agreed the correct decision was made.

Moreover, it was noted that the alleged holding by Taylor occurred after the initial shove on Hart, which led to the disallowed goal.

McCoist has just embarrassed himself here. Accept that he right decision was made, and move on.
