Celtic fans enjoyed a six-goal thriller at Hampden as their side edged out Aberdeen to progress to the Scottish Cup final.

Joe Hart ended up being the hero during the shootout, saving from Dons midfielder Killian Phillips to ensure the Bhoys recorded a 6-5 margin on spot-kicks after nothing could separate the sides in open play.

Brendan Rodgers shared his relief at being able to guide his side to their first domestic final of the campaign despite a nervy display, humorously claiming that a therapy session may be on the cards help calm his nerves.

He stated post-match: “I need a therapy session after that. What a game for neutrals watching. Credit both teams, Aberdeen did fantastic – they had nothing to lose but came and played really well – we had to dig in after a slow start. I’m just happy to be in the final.”

There will be Celtic supporters who also feel like a period of serenity in the wake of a tight affair that could’ve gone in either direction; nevertheless, we now have another date at the national stadium on May 25th to look forward to.

The Bhoys will now focus on recuperating and planning ahead. They Travel to Dundee next Sunday for the first of their five post-split fixtures.

Alistair Johnston’s classy message to the Celtic support

Undoubtedly, the sizeable Celtic support at Hampden yesterday had a major part to play in hauling their side over the line against a spirited Aberdeen outfit.

Canadian right-back Alistair Johnston, who slotted home in the penalty shootout, agrees with that sentiment and sent a classy message to the fans after our triumph in an interview with Sam North, otherwise known by his YouTube channel name Footy Adventures.

He stated when asked about the role of Celtic’s support in the victory: “It was great; I’m not sure exactly what the split was, what the final number was in terms of the number of Celtic fans, but how we played, they definitely could’ve got a bit more anxious and we could’ve felt that energy, but they didn’t.

“Even going into the penalty shootout, they were behind us; they stayed strong with us and made a big difference because you could feel that excess energy.

“It’s already a tough walk when you’re walking up to go and take a pen, but they did a great job staying behind us and willing us on to that victory.”

Celtic held their nerve yesterday and now know that a mammoth clash against Rangers is in store at Hampden next month for football’s oldest prize.

It doesn’t matter how you get to finals in the end; regardless, league duty will take priority for now before we plot another result against Phillipe Clement’s outfit.
