AK Twitter Feud Escalates: Nicki Minaj and Cardi B swap profile photos, embracing each other’s arch-nemeses.
Nicki Minaj and Cardi B have changed their Twitter profile pictures to depict each other’s respective nemeses as the rappers’ ongoing public feud continues.
The bad blood between Minaj, 39, and Cardi B, 29, has been well-documented over the years.
According to Glamour magazine, the beef started to stew in 2017, with Minaj, real name Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, liking a social-media post mocking the rapping style of Cardi B, who was born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar.
Cardi B tried to throw a shoe at Minaj during a confrontation at a New York Fashion Week party back in September 2018.
Four years later, the icy relationship between the two appears to show no signs of cooling. On October 3, Minaj briefly changed her profile picture to an image of another of Cardi B’s foes, City Girls rapper JT, 29. Cardi B then changed her profile picture to one showing Minaj’s nemesis, rapper Remy Ma, 42.
On Monday, Cardi B celebrated her and fellow rapper GloRilla’s track, “Tomorrow 2,” debuting in ninth place on the Billboard Hot 100.
When one fan took a swipe at other rappers, including JT, on GloRilla and Cardi B’s behalf, JT, real name Jatavia Shakara Johnson, responded.
“im not like that at alllll,” she tweeted. “I been doing remixes & never got credited ON A CHART BUT they get sung word for word and help push the original songs as intended unlike y’all well I can’t even say y’all cause you don’t rap, you TWEET! Congratulations Glo & stream FNF remix AND QUEENMIX.”
Shortly after the message was published, Cardi B tweeted on a Chart Data post making note of the star landing a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 for six straight years.
“AND MY RECORDS LIVE IN THE TOP TEN,” Cardi B wrote. It is not known if the tweet was coincidental, or in reaction to JT’s tweet.
JT then defended herself as a fan accused her of failing to mention Cardi B in her congratulatory message for fear of upsetting Minaj. JT is one of the numerous artists appearing on the Queen Mix of Minaj’s track, “Super Freaky Girl.”
“NAH actually the tweet was too long!” JT tweeted. “PLUS Cardi Been having top 10’s I been congratulating her for years this is GLO first one, I’ve been ignoring y’all but y’all are hella annoying, move round & get off my D*** thank YOU!”
In another tweet defending herself, JT wrote that she doesn’t “gossip with [Minaj] about NOBODY all this because of FAN pages!”
Amid the tweets, Cardi simply wrote the word “lapdog,” while JT tweeted “wiener dog,” sparking a back-and-forth that dominated Twitter and, according to tweets from the two, spilled into their direct messages.
Minaj then briefly changed her profile picture to that of JT, while Cardi B switched hers to that of Remy Ma, whose bad blood with Minaj goes back several years.
Minaj has changed her profile photo, while Cardi B’s remains as Remy Ma.
Newsweek has contacted representatives of Cardi B and Minaj for comment.
