‘Agatha All Along’ Has Some Amazing Subtle Details and Easter Eggs, So Here Are 23 from Episode 4.Linh

🚨 There are obviously MASSIVE spoilers ahead for Agatha All Along Episode 4, as well as WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! 🚨

1. First, the episode titles for each Agatha All Along episode are lyrics from “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road.” Of course, this one relates to the coven having to sing in order to stop the demon from attacking them. This week’s episode title features lyrics from Lorna’s version of the song.

2. When Rio rises out of the ground after arriving on the Witches’ Road, the way she appears is similar to when Wanda emerged in a scene from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Both included their bodies contorting and bones cracking into place.

3. When Rio first starts walking the Witches’ Road, she skips, which is likely a nod to The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy skips down the yellow brick road.

Rio even crosses her legs while she skips, just like Dorothy.

4. I love seeing the Witches’ Road come to life from the Scarlet Witch (2015–2017) comic series. Right here, when Agatha looks back at her coven, she’s framed in a similar way to an iconic panel featuring Wanda standing in the middle of trees that look like they’ve formed a tunnel.

5. Also, this is me being a little film nerdy, but whenever the coven enters a new trial, the show’s aspect ratio changes. WandaVision also used this trick to show when we were inside Wanda’s fantasy of Westview vs. the real world.

6. When the coven suddenly wears 1970s clothing after entering the house/recording studio, Lilia has a hairstyle that resembles one Liza Minnelli had in the ’70s. Of course, Patti LuPone and Liza are both Broadway icons.

Liza’s mother, Judy Garland, famously played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, which is also referenced in this episode.

7. When Rio’s transformed into her ’70s outfit, you can see the flower she offered up to Agatha upon arriving on the Witches’ Road in her hair.

Later in the episode, Agatha picks it back up after they exit the house, too.

8. When Jen is looking around the house, you can see there are a pair of eyes staring back at her through the mask. I’m assuming it’s the demon we see later on.

9. Various murals in the house depict witches dying and being tortured, presumably during the Salem witch trials. There’s even one that shows a witch being burned at the stake.

10. While walking through the recording studio, you can see a poster for a Fleetwood Mac concert on May 7, 1977, at Oakland Stadium. That was a real concert they played on their Rumours tour.

Stevie Nicks has a long History of being associated with witchcraft. So much so that she appeared in an episode of American Horror Story: Coven in 2014.

11. Okay, during these episodes, Lilia has definitely been seeing the future and even blurting out parts of conversations. I’m just going to put it in writing here that I bet we hear these exact lines from her in the Agatha All Along finale.

12. When Rio asks Agatha why she brought Teen along, she says, “Many hands,” which is something she also said in WandaVision Episode 1 while helping Wanda in the kitchen.

13. When Teen plays the record backward, it’s likely a nod to how many believe rock ‘n’ roll is “the devil’s music.” According to VH1, since the 1960s, people have believed that bands are hiding satanic messages in their songs if they are played backward.

14. The record’s sleeve saying “play me” is also reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, when Alice falls down the rabbit hole and encounters bottles that say “drink me” and cookies that say “eat me.” In Agatha All Along Episode 3, there was also an Alice in Wonderland reference.

Similar to Alice in Wonderland, Agatha and her coven have gone “through the looking glass” into a magical new world, aka the Witches’ Road.

15. When Alice puts the pieces of the record together, you can see that the second track is called “Red Haired Woman,” which I hope is a little nod to Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch.

16. Agatha tells Alice that “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” is a protection spell her mom created. Now, this could be a bit of a reach, but there was notably a scene in WandaVision Episode 3 where Wanda sings the Sokovian lullaby to Billy and Tommy, and maybe that was a protection spell, too.

Again, this adds to the theory that Teen is Billy Kaplan, aka Billy Maximoff.

17. While performing Lorna’s version of “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” every time the camera circles back to Lilia, she’s playing a different instrument.

18. Now, there is a theory that Rio, aka the Green Witch, is actually Death, which becomes pretty clear in this episode. For starters, she references to Agatha getting “her bodies” after Agatha killed witches. Then, when Teen is seriously injured, Agatha looks at Rio and pleads, “Don’t.”

19. While Jen is healing Teen, Lilia mentions “Three of Swords,” which is likely a reference to the tarot card. The Three of Swords card typically means heartbreak, betrayal, grief, etc. Generally, the card represents unhappiness and sorrow.

This is now the third time Lilia has referenced a tarot card. Previously, she mentioned “Three of Pentacles” and “High Priestess.”

20. When Teen wakes up, you can see that Agatha used her coat as a blanket for him.

21. Agatha tells Teen that whoever cast the sigil on him likely won’t know who he is either. Now, if we are running with the Billy Kaplan theory, in the Avengers: The Children’s Crusade comics, Wanda remarks on not being able to know who her son is, saying, “What kind of mother doesn’t even recognize her own son?” So, yes, I would still like to believe she placed this sigil on Billy.

22. While sharing their scars with each other, Agatha mentions the Daughters of Liberty. In the comics, the group was trained in magic by Agatha Harkness.

Alongside Agatha, some of the members in the comics are Peggy Carter, Sharon Carter, Sue Storm, Spider-Woman, Misty Knight, Black Widow, and more.

23. And finally, when Rio talks about her “scar” being a person she loved, aka I’m assuming Agatha, I’m also going with Rio was actually the one who might’ve sacrificed Agatha’s son and/or he died because of her. I think Agatha is WAY too emotional over her son to have been the one willing to give him up, TBH.
