Eat your heart out, JD Vance. From Taylor to Ditta, these childless cat ladies are iconic and beloved.

In 2021, then-Ohio Senate candidate JD Vance said that the United States was being run by “ childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” Unsurprisingly, this remark resurfaced now that he’s a Vice Presidential candidate.

Two weeks ago, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for President on her Instagram, signing off with “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady”. Since then, Vance’s remarks have transformed from insult to a badge of honour with many gladly tagging themselves as such. Who else are some childless cat ladies who are lovable and iconic? Read on to find out.

Taylor to Ditta: Some of the Most Iconic Childless Cat Ladies

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is not the original childless cat lady but she’s definitely the most iconic one as of late. Any fan of Swift’s isn’t just well-versed in the artist’s discography, relationship History, and the easter eggs hidden all throughout her songs and videos, but they also know Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button. For those not in the know, those are the names of her cats who are an integral part of Swiftlore. Swift has already described herself as a cat lady numerous times but tagging herself as a childless cat lady in her post endorsing Kamala Harris may go down as one of the most memorable.

Kate McKinnon

The Saturday Night Live alum is a legendary performer who had made so many people bust their guts laughing during her stint as a player in the sketch show. She played numerous memorable characters on the show including Rudy Giuliani and the strange woman who enjoyed her alien abduction so much that Ryan Gosling couldn’t keep a straight face. But one iconic moment of hers was when SNL was filming shows from home and she transformed into Barbara DeDrew, a character who owns a cat rescue, and featured her very own cat who took after its owner and played numerous other cats as well. Truly iconic childless cat lady behaviour.

Miley Cyrus

If there’s any doubt Miley Cyrus should be a part of this list, take a look back at her 2013 AMA performance. Cyrus donned a kitty-laden two-piece and sang “Wrecking Ball” while a giant talking cat appeared behind her. Her love for cats isn’t just evident on the stage though. Cyrus is a big lover of Animals. She has at least three cats among her Pets, which include dogs and even pigs.

Jennifer Aniston

The Friends actress was one of the people who spoke up when JD Vance’s disparaging remarks gained traction once again, and for good reason. Aniston has spoken about her struggle with fertility, telling Allure that she tried for years to get pregnant. Sadly, nothing worked. Though she’s more of a dog lady since she own two adopted dogs, it seems fitting to include her in this list after she spoke up against what Vance said and what she has gone through. “I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day,” she said, “I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”

Dita von Teese

The Queen of Burlesque is known for many things but one of them is her relationship with her beloved cat, Aleister. She started posting him back in 2003 and he grew in popularity. Eventually, von Teese also set up a dedicated Instagram account for him. Unfortunately, Aleister passed away in 2021 but von Teese is also taking care of a brand new Devonshire Rex named Alphonse.
