Women's golf gets going in Guyancourt

The women's golf tournament is underway at Le Golf National, where Team USA's Nelly Korda is bidding to win back-to-back Olympic titles.

Korda is the bookmakers' favourite for gold, ahead of Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul and fellow American Lilia Vu. 

Spain win race walk relay

Spain have won the marathon race walk mixed relay, the duo of Martina Pérez and Álvaro Martín claiming gold in a time of 2:50:31.

Silver went to Ecuador's Glenda Morejón and Brian Pintado, and Australia's Rhydian Cowley and Jemima Montag took bronze.

Golden Gabby

Another headline US medal winner yesterday was Gabby Thomas, who won America's first women's 200m gold since 2012.

Having won bronze in Tokyo three years ago, Thomas claimed her first Olympic crown with a time of 21.83 in Paris, beating 100m champion Julien Alfred into second. The USA's Brittany Brown took bronze.

Hocker pulls off 1500m upset

Among Team USA's gold-medal winners yesterday was Cole Hocker, who claimed a stunning victory in the men's 1500m final.

Hocker took gold ahead of the two hot favourites, Britain's Josh Kerr and Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen - and did so in an Olympic-record time.

The USA's Yared Neguse won bronze behind Kerr in second, leaving America with two men on the 1500m podium for the first time since the Stockholm Summer Games 112 years ago.

USA clear of China in medal table

After day 11, Team USA have daylight at the top of the medals table, having taken a two-gold lead over second-placed China: 24 to 22.

The Americans are bidding to win the medal count for the fourth straight Summer Games, and for the seventh time in the last eight.

Since 1992, the only time the USA haven't finished first in the standings was Beijing 2008, when hosts China led the way.
