The FedEx Cup playoffs got underway on Thursday with the first round of the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. World no. 39 Chris Kirk leads the way after a six-under par 64, although the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood have also made strong starts.

The highlight of Kirk’s bogey-free opening round undoubtedly came at the 205-yard par 3 14th, where he had a hole in one, helping him take a one-stroke lead over Taylor Pendrith, Mathieu Pavon and Hideki Matsuyama into round two.

Scheffler, Schauffele, Fleetwood and Justin Rose are among the seven players two shots off the lead, with Justin Thomas one further back. Rory McIlroy opened his tournament with a two-under par 68, as did Billy Horschel, Wyndham Clark, Collin Morikawa and Jordan Spieth.
