Women should be independent, only to an extent: Nora Fatehi

Nora Fatehi, the Canadian actor and dancer making waves in Bollywood, blames feminism for corroding the infrastructure of society. The star made no efforts to sugarcoat her views in a recent appearance on The Ranveer Show, reported Pinkvilla. 

Delivering her damning judgement, the Crakk star began, “This idea of ‘I don't need anybody.’ Feminism. I don't believe in this s**. In fact, I think, feminism f** up our society completely.”

Despite speaking from a place of privilege, the Bollywood actor wants to uphold traditional views of the roles expected of men and women in a subcontinental society without deviating too far from the roles that have been carved out for both sexes over the centuries. 

“The idea of being inherently completely independent and not having to get married and have kids, and not having the male and female dynamics at home where the man is the provider, a breadwinner and the woman is the nurturer - I don’t believe in people who think that’s not true,” she confirmed. 

The actor added that women should pursue their ambitions within the framework of their household responsibilities. “I think women are nurturers. Yes, they should go to work and have their own life and be independent - but to a certain extent,” she stated.

According to the publication, Nora believes that men today need to be ready to accept the role of a provider and protector, or risk hindering their chances of sustaining a meaningful relationship with a woman.

“It’s a problem for us women who are looking for men with masculine energy,” she insisted. "You have to be ready to be a provider, a supporter, ready to take a protective role in society. A lot of men don't want to do it anymore.”

Nora is convinced that the men of today are shirking their inherent “masculine” responsibilities in the wake of feminism, to the detriment of their women counterparts. 

“A lot of men now have also been brainwashed by feminism era,” she maintained. “If a man can work on being more of a provider, and protector, the women can then focus on being more of the nurturer.”

The actor reinforced her beliefs that only when men and women stick to their traditional roles can society function in a cohesive fashion. 

“Everyone brings something to the table,” she remarked. “If you are bringing to the table money, food, shelter, I need to bring to the table kids, being a mother, taking care of the house, cooking, etc. If we are bringing the same thing to the table, then who's going to bring the other stuff?"

According to Hindustan Times, Nora was born and raised in Canada, and is of Moroccan descent. She started her career in Bollywood with the film Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans in 2014. She has made a name for herself with dance numbers in Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Satyameva Jayate (2018). Nora appeared opposite Varun Dhawan in Street Dancer 3D (2020), and has also been a judge on Indian reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
