The mischievous elvish doll with sharp teeth has recently seen a surge in popularity in Thailand thanks to BLACKPINK’s Lisa. Earlier in April this year, the K-pop idol posted a video of herself on her Instagram story hugging a Labubu plush doll. In fact, according to a report, Lisa was even seen decorating her Kaithe Elena bag and Birkin with Labubu pendants. But many still don’t know or get the hype around it. Here’s all about the Labubu toy and The Monsters, how to tell them apart, and what their characteristics are.

But there are still many who don’t really know much about Labubu. We already have a handy guide to some of the frequently asked questions about the character that you can check out, but that’s focused solely on Labubu. Artist Kasing Lung created the character as part of a group known as The Monsters, characters inspired by Lung’s fascination with Nordic mythology. So who exactly are Labubu’s fellow monsters?

Labubu and The Monsters: A Guide to Kasing Lung’s creations

Labubu

Labubu toy is the most popular of The Monsters, recognisable from her fur, serrated teeth, and sly smile. The Pop Mart website describes her as mischievous but kind-hearted, always wanting to help though sometimes inadvertently doing bad things. Her long ears are similar to that of some of the other Monsters, but she bears the most striking resemblance to Zimomo. In fact, they look so much alike that some people can’t tell them apart.

Much like Labubu, Zimomo is fuzzy, long-eared, and Sports sharp teeth that they show off when they smile. At first glance, telling Labubu and Zimomo apart seems almost impossible. Both of them have brown fur, serrated teeth, and a smile that seems like they’re hiding something. But there is one key difference that you can easily clock to tell them apart: a tail. Zimomo has a tail while the Labubu toy does not.

Tycoco

If you never thought skulls could be cute, Tycoco is here to prove you wrong. The adorable skeletal character is usually on the receiving end of Labubu’s antics. Fortunately for Labubu, Tycoco cares for her too much to give up being friends with her. At the end of the day, Tycoco also knows Labubu loves them. You can find numerous Tycoco figures in various poses and outfits. On top of that, you can also buy a Labubu and Tycoco sticker pack for LINE.

Spooky

It seems fitting that one of The Monsters is a subtly scary-looking snowman. The aptly-named Spooky can look cute in one moment and creepy the next depending on the pose and outfit the figure has. There are times when Spooky seems really adorable. Other times, they seem like they’re staring into the farthest depths of your soul and know your deepest darkest secrets.

Pato

The last member of The Monsters has recognisable ears that droop on their side and mouse-like features. Most of the time, Pato’s figures sport purple skin but like all the other characters, there are times the colour varies. For example, Pato’s Squid Game-inspired version has brown skin instead of purple. Pato also wears different hats at times.
