Why isn’t Austin Seibert playing against the Eagles in Week 11?

The CoMMAnders have a crucial Game tonight as they take on NFC East rivals Philadelphia Eagles in a battle for the top spot in the division. They are also looking to bounce back from last week’s disappointing 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This season, the CoMMAnders have done better than anyone expected, and a lot of that is thanks to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. However, their leading scorer is actually their kicker, Austin Seibert.

Seibert sidelined vs Eagles

Last week, Seibert was limited in practice as he‘s dealing with an injury to his right hip. He was originally listed as questionable before eventually being ruled out of the Commanders’ Week 10 game against the Steelers. They instead signed Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad and elevated him for the game. He ended up having a perfect game, making both his field goal tries from beyond 40 yards and all three extra point attempts.

Still, Gonzalez is meant to be a temporary solution as a kicker who had not previously played in the league since the 2021 season. They were hoping to have Seibert back by this week in a critical divisional game.

But this week, Seibert did not participate in practice, still nursing the hip injury and head coach Dan Quinn ruled him out of the game against the Eagles on Wednesday. The Commanders will rely again on Gonzalez for kicking duties. They’re now looking at a Week 12 return for Seibert, when the Commanders take on the Dallas Cowboys.
