Why isn’t Marshon Lattimore playing against the Eagles in Week 11?
The Washington Commanders are gearing up for their NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. The 7-3 Commanders will be looking to take the top spot back from the 7-2 Eagles.
Unfortunately for Washington, they’re dealing with a few injuries while the Eagles are fully healthy. One of the players on their injury list was expected though and that’s their newly acquired cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
Lattimore’s Commanders debut still on hold
Last week, the Commanders bolstered their secondary by trading the New Orleans Saints for cornerback Marshon Lattimore (plus a 2025 fifth-round pick). In exchange, the Commanders gave the Saints their 2025 third and fourth round picks, plus a 2025 sixth-round pick the had received in a previous trade for defensive tackle John Ridgeway III.
Lattimore’s debut with Washington, however, will have to wait. He was unable to play last week when the Commanders lost 28-27 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, as he was dealing with a hamstring injury. They definitely could have used him, as the defense gave up two deep touchdown passes, one of which was the Steelers' game-winner by wide receiver Mike Williams, who got past Commanders CB Benjamin St-Juste.
Lattimore is still nursing that hamstring injury as the Commanders head to Philadelphia on a short week. He did not practice this week and head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that he will sit out against the Eagles. St-Juste, Mike Sainristil, and Noah Igbinoghene will remain the primary CBs against a tough Eagles offense led by quarterback Jalen Hurts and including the talented receiving core of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
The Commanders are thinking ahead to the postseason with Lattimore, who will be under contract in Washington for the next two seasons.
