Who is Tyler Huntley, the Dolphins’ starting QB for week 5 against the Patriots? Career stats, salary...
The Miami Dolphins have signed Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad after Tua Tagovailoa sustained a concussion. Huntley was supposed to back up Skyler Thompson.
Nevertheless, due to Thompson’s injury, the University of Utah graduate, also known as “Snoop,” will start against the Tennessee Titans in the upcoming Game on Monday night. Head coach Mike McDaniels made the announcement. Thompson could not finish the Game against the Seattle Seahawks due to an injury, and Tim Boyle had to take his place.
He attended Hallandale High School in Hallandale Beach, Florida. During his high school career, he passed for 9,053 yards and 106 touchdowns. As a senior, he was named the Florida Gatorade Football Player of the Year. He committed to the University of Utah to play college football, where he played alongside his high school teammate Zack Moss.
In his professional career, Huntley has started nine games with a record of 3-6 and has played in 20 games over five seasons in the NFL. During this time, he has accumulated 1,957 passing yards with 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Additionally, he is a threat in the ground game, having amassed 509 rushing yards and three scores.
Tyler Huntley’s contract and salary
On April 30, 2020, Huntley joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent. Although waived on September 5, 2020, he quickly rebounded by signing with the team’s practice squad the next day.
Fast-forward to March 20, 2024, and Huntley made a move to the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, his time there was short-lived, as he was released on August 29 after securing a spot on the 53-man roster due to a lack of trade interest. However, the very next day, the Ravens re-signed him to fill the third-string quarterback position.
Later, on September 16, 2024, Huntley made another switch, this time to the Miami Dolphins as their new backup quarterback. This change came as the Dolphins sought to bolster their position, particularly with starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sidelined due to concussion protocol.
According to Spotrac, Tyler Huntley signed a one-year, $1,125,000 contract with the Miami Dolphins, including an average annual salary of $1,125,000. In 2024, Huntley will earn a base salary of $1,000,000 while carrying a cap hit of $875,556.
