The Morgan State University Choir is to sing the US national anthem at M&T Bank Stadium this weekend, ahead of the AFC Championship Game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs.

“They could have asked anyone in the world”

“It’s the closest we will ever get to being a rockstar like Beyoncé or Taylor Swift,” the choir’s director, Dr Eric Conway, told CBS this week.

He added: “What an honor. They could have asked anyone in the world, but they asked the Morgan State University Choir.”

One of the US’s most prestigious university choral ensembles, the Baltimore-based choir performs all over the world, having embarked on its first international tour, to Finland, the UK, Denmark and the former Soviet Union, back in 1974.

The choir has given concerts at a host of prestigious venues - including New York’s Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center in Washington, DC - and for major figures such as Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama.
