After the USMNT’s positive result in their Copa América opener against Bolivia, winning 2-0, manager Gregg Berhalter will want to make sure they can build momentum at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in their next Game.

Across the tournament, the US will be looking to use the home advantage to hopefully go all the way and set themselves up for the big one: the 2026 World Cup.

Here, we take a look at the next rival for the US in what they will hope is a Group C that they can get out of.

Who do the USMNT play next in Copa América?

Up next for Berhalter and co. will be Panama. While the prospect of facing a country with just over 4 million - that’s around half of New York City’s population - things don’t seem so simple once we take a look at recent outings. Led by Thomas Christensen, Panama have turned into something of a surprise package in world Football, and finished runners-up in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2023, losing to Mexico.

And, dear reader, on the way to the final they beat none other than the USMNT, coming out in top in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in San Diego. On that occasion, the game was goalless until extra-time, when Iván Anderson’s goal was cancelled out by Jesús Ferreira. Thomas Christensen knows how to get one over on the US, and he’ll be looking to do so again this time around.

With that result fresh in the minds of both the fans and players of the USA, and given the fact that they are (once again) on home soil, this game should go in the favour of Gregg Berhalter.

However, as mentioned, never write off the Panamanians and a tough result could pile the pressure on the US to come up big in their final Game in Group C, which is certainly their biggest challenge in recent times... but we’ll get to that another day!
