What was Aaron Rodgers’ message to the ‘tortured’ New York Jets fans?
The New York Jets and their fans have had a rough ride in recent years, but following an impressive performance on Thursday night led by Aaron Rodgers who put on a show, it may be that things are about to change and that’s something the star quarterback spoke directly to.
Aaron Rodgers wants Jets fans to believe again
On Thursday night, the New York Jets finally delivered on the hype that has surrounded the team since quarterback Aaron Rodgers joined them. Indeed, the 40-year-old rolled back the years as he led the team to a 24-3 blowout win over the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium.
For his part, Rodgers threw for 281 yards and two scores on 27-of-35 passing which is to say he was inspired on the night. Needless to say, his contribution and the result were a major boost in confidence for a faNBAse that had to watch in horror after Rodgers went down just minutes into his debut with New York in Week 1 of last season, after tearing his Achilles tendon. As we know, Rodgers did not play again in the campaign which brings us back to the present where he’s finally able to give the faithful what they’ve been hoping for.
It’s with that idea that we come to the four-time MVP’s comments post-Game after helping the Jets to improve to a 2-1 record on the season so far. Speaking with Prime Video on the sideline, Rodgers had some encouraging words for the fans. “We’re trying to change this whole attitude around here. We’re trying to build something special here. Get these fans to believe in us; they’ve been tortured for a long time. Last year was obviously a tough year. But it’s good to be back. It’s good to be Healthy.”
As mentioned before, Rodgers basically didn’t play last season, playing just four snaps in total before suffering that terrible injury. To that end, credit must be given for the way in which he’s returned to the Game especially when considering his age and stage. In the Jets’ season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers, he threw just 167 passing yards, but then bounced back in Week 2 with two touchdown passes, though the Jets did lose on the road to the Titans. Then, there was Thursday night where we saw classic Rodgers throwing pinpoint passes on the run while leading his team to victory. “It’s great to be a Jet,” Rodgers said. “it’s great to have nights like this, and even better to have a weekend off.” In Week 4 the Jets will face the Denver Broncos. Don’t miss it.
