What is the retro adidas kit worn by Argentina against Peru?

The last few years has been a historic period for the Argentina national team, winning three consecutive major tournaments to give Lionel Messi the international silverware that he has always desired.

The first of Argentina’s three World Cup triumphs came in 1978, wearing the iconic adidas trefoil logo. The sportswear giants first teamed up with Argentina in 1974, meaning that this year is the 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Argentina will wear an eye-catching retro-inspired kit for Tuesday’s game against Peru.

The jersey feature a pared-back design with white V-neck collar, sporting the familiar blue and white stripes that are synonymous with the national team. The throwback look is completed with “an iconic Trefoil and mid-‘70s-inspired team crest standing out in gold colours“.

Although adidas have stuck to a minimalist idea with the kit, there are a number of subtle touches that give nods to Argentina’s rich sporting History. The underside of the shirt features the laurel wreath and the sun symbol from the Argentina national flag, alongside the words ‘En el alma y en la piel’, or ‘In the soul and on the skin’.

Finally, the inner logo also boasts the three stars that represent the nation’s three World Cup triumphs.
