Tom Brady’s FOX Sports broadcasting debut was one of the most highly-anticipated of any sports commentator. He announced his first game last week when the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns met in Ohio for Week 1 of the NFL season. His first game was met with mixed reviews, but it seems like the majority thought there was quite a bit of room for improvement.

He’ll get the chance for that improvement this Sunday when he broadcasts the Dallas Cowboys vs New Orleans Saints game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET. He will announce the game alongside his partner and play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.

The overwhelming opinions on Brady’s debut were that he came off as a bit awkward and just plain wasn’t that entertaining to watch/listen to. Of course, it was his first-ever experience calling a live game in front of an audience of millions, which was some people’s first line of defense for Brady.

In 2022, Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX Sports, replacing the well-regarded Greg Olsen, who was demoted to FOX’s second broadcast team. The Brady name alone was no doubt going to pull in viewers, regardless of how well he actually did as a broadcaster. In Week 1, the Cowboys vs Browns game that Brady called brought in 23.8 million viewers. Then again, it was a Cowboys game, which always pulls in a lot of viewers, and it was the start of the NFL regular season, so there could have been many contributing factors to the numbers. It will be interesting to see how Brady’s numbers develop as the season goes on.
