Mark Coleman in critical condition after saving his parents from a fire

According to reports, UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman is in critical condition after saving his parents from a fire that started at their home in Fremont, Ohio during the early hours of Tuesday morning. It is understood that Coleman was airlifted to hospital after suffering from severe smoke inhalation during the blaze. As per reports, Coleman and his parents were asleep when his dog, Hammer, alerted him to the danger. At that point, the 59-year-old was decisive in his actions, as he got his parents to safety before returning for his dog.

Sadly, the Pet did not survive and worse still is the fact that in his attempt to rescue it, Coleman lost consciousness due to the smoke. It was at this point that The Ballville Volunteer Fire Department, aided by seven other fire departments arrived at the residence - roughly 4:00 AM - and promptly airlifted the former fighter to the nearest hospital. Where his parents are concerned, reports indicate that his father who was the first to be rescued did not suffer any injury, while his mother sustained minor burns. Coleman remains both intubated and sedated according to his friend and former fighter Wes Sims.

As for Mark Coleman is, the simplest way to put it would be to call him one of the UFC’s earliest stars. Indeed, it was Coleman who took on the likes of other legends of the sport such as Stephan Bonnar, Don Frye, and Dan Severn. Truthfully, Coleman is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters in the history of the sport, one who first became champion at UFC 10 and then did so again at UFC 11. He would later move to PRIDE Fighting Championships where he became the first grand champion with a sensational performance in the tournament in 2000, culminating with a knockout of Igor Vovchanchyn in the finals. Most recently, Coleman was serving as both coach and mentor to UFC fighter Matt Brown. At this point it remains unclear as to what turn Coleman’s condition will take, and so the only thing we anyone can do perhaps, is follow the advice of his friend Sims who concluded his update about Coleman with the following words: “I swear to GOD-he’s one of the toughest individual ever created, been thru so much a Movie at this point could not give his life work Justice! Please 🙏 and Share! Life is Precious!”
