Wayne Rooney Receives Brilliant Saturday Celtic Surprise
Today’s legends match at Old Trafford saw former Celtic and Manchester United greats return to the pitch for a special event.
Representing Celtic are some familiar fan favourites, including Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Gary Hooper, and the much-loved goalkeeper Artur Boruc. The trio brought back memories for fans who fondly remember their contributions to the Hoops in their prime years.
Manchester United also has fielded a star-studded squad of their past players, but what caught many Celtic supporters’ attention was the involvement of Wayne Rooney. The former United striker, a well-known admirer of Celtic, expressed in the past that one of his biggest Football regrets was never playing for the Parkhead side.
Ahead of the match, Rooney got a pleasant surprise when he was presented with a Celtic jersey, complete with his name and number on the back. The 38-year-old seemed genuinely delighted as he proudly held up the Hoops shirt, perhaps hinting once again at his affection for the Glasgow club.
Wayne got his big move to Man Utd at a young age and Celtic would never have been able to afford him. There’s always chances a player can come to Scottish Football later in their career and still light it up. However, after he peaked at United he never really hit any sort of standard to warrant a move. At least he has his Celtic jersey now!
The match promises to a fun occasion for the players and fans.
