Brendan Rodgers Hails “Selfless” Midfielder
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was jubilant after Celtic’s hard-fought 2-0 win against Hearts at Celtic Park this afternoon, with both goals coming in the second half.
Record signing Arne Engels scored the first goal of the Game after Celtic were awarded a penalty, with the Belgian playmaker being a surprise choice to take it.
Rodgers said: (BBC Scotland), “Reo Hatate was the number one taker. He was keen to give it to Engels, that’s the selflessness of Reo.
“They practiced yesterday. Both their levels were high. A really, really good finish, he stuck it away really well.”
It speaks volumes about Reo Hatate that he allowed Arne Engels to take the penalty and score his first goal for Celtic.
This classy gesture from the Japanese midfielder is a welcome sign that new signings are not left out but are given immediate opportunities to shine.
Engels seized his chance by scoring the opener and earning the Man of the Match award.
Hatate himself has been in Engels’ position as a relatively unknown player joining the club and understands how significant it is to score your first goal for Celtic.
Hatate’s decision to let Engels take the penalty highlights his selflessness and generosity, showing his incredible character.
