Usher reveals details of his Super Bowl LVII halftime show
Last September, it was confirmed by Apple Music and the NFL that Usher would be the artist in charge of the Super Bowl LVII halftime show, which is scheduled to take place in February of this year.
As the biggest game of the NFL season approaches, the singer has shared some details about what the Halftime Show will entail.
Usher on the SB LVII halftime show: “R&B will take the main stage”
In an interview with Vogue, Usher talked about his upcoming performance. “People will tune in for a Football Game, but I hope when they look at that halftime performance, I’m hoping they walk away with something that’s healing them,... Something that makes them feel hopeful, and not just look at the past, but have hope for the future, and have hope for a different type of future than we’re looking at right now in the present,” says the singer.
About planning his show and how to choose the perfect songs for those 13 minutes of the show, the singer added: “I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I want people who have been a part of that journey to feel like it’s a celebration for everybody, for all of us, from the beginning up until this point.”
Usher also stated that the show will have great choreography, something his fans expect from him. “This night was specifically curated in my mind to have R&B take the main stage,... not just R&B music, but R&B performance, R&B connection, R&B spirit.”, he added.
In the interview with the famous fashion magazine, the singer also said he felt inspired by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Prince. “I want them to feel something, and feel my passion, my love, feel like I was the right person to sit in this position, and I was the right person to bring this kind of energy and love and connection to the entire world,”, dijo sobre el objetivo de su show.
Super Bowl LVIII will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 11.
Usher’s first appearance on the Halftime Show
This is not the first time that the R&B singer has arrived on the enormous stage that represents the Super Bowl halftime show. On February 6, 2011, when the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers faced off in Super Bowl XLV at AT&T Stadium, Usher was one of the special guests who appeared on the Halftime Show hosted by the Black Eyed Peas. On that occasion, he performed ‘OMG’ alongside will.i.am.
