The Paris Olympic Games are upon us, and just in case you wanted more football, Paris has got you covered. The men’s soccer tournament begins on July 24 while the women’s competition starts a day later, and Emma Hayes’ side will certainly be looking to fly home with a gold medal round each and every one of their necks.

The excitement for the USWNT is huge ahead of the first whistle, with the star-studded squad looking more than capable of sweeping aside most other teams at the Games. The short, quick-fire tournament will leave no room for error, however, so any tactical questions must be ironed out before a ball is kicked in France. After a poor World Cup campaign, it’s safe to say that the former Chelsea manager has been thrown in at the deep end...

Here’s how Emma Hayes’ USWNT squad looks for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games:

Goalkeepers:

Casey Murphy (North Carolina Courage)

Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars)

Defenders:

Tierna Davidson (NJ/NY Gotham FC)

Emily Fox (Arsenal FC, ENG)

Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave FC)

Casey Krueger (Washington Spirit)

Jenna Nighswonger (NJ/NY Gotham FC)

Emily Sonnett (NJ/NY Gotham FC)

Midfielders:

Korbin Albert (Paris Saint-Germain, FRA)

Sam Coffey (Portland Thorns FC)

Lindsey Horan (Olympique Lyon, FRA)

Rose Lavelle (NJ/NY Gotham FC)

Catarina Macario (Chelsea FC, ENG)

Forwards:

Crystal Dunn (NJ/NY Gotham FC)

Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit)

Jaedyn Shaw (San Diego Wave FC)

Sophia Smith (Portland Thorns FC)

Mallory Swanson (Chicago Red Stars)

As you may have noticed, just 18 players are permitted in the Olympic squads, something which makes EMMA Hayes’ decision incredibly difficult. However, the rules allow for four extra players to be named as reserves, and can be called upon in extreme circumstances, such as injuries.

Squad alternates:

Goalkeeper: Jane Campbell

Midfielders: Hal Hershfelt, Croix Bethune

Forward: Lynn Williams

Hayes has shown confidence in her decision making and has selected a squad that suits her own style and ideology: a total of eight players who were on the USA’s roster for the 2020 Olympics are in the squad this year and just 10 players from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Team have been included.

The USA play in Group B and begin their campaign on July 25 against Zambia (9 p.m. local / 3 p.m. ET) at Stade de Nice in Nice. After that, they will play against Germany on July 28 (9 p.m. local / 3 p.m. ET) at Marseille’s Stade de Marseille. Their final Game in the group is against Australia on July 31 (7 p.m. local / 1 p.m. ET) and will also take place in Marseille.
