“We’re continuing our investigations into how this data left our organisation and we are ensuring we minimise the likelihood of future breaches,” TAFE SA CEO David Coltman said.

TAFE SA said the breach happened before December 2021 but it is as yet unable to confirm how the breach occurred, according to 7NEWS.

It is also unclear who is behind the data breach.

SA Police told 7NEWS.com.au several devices containing data relevant to TAFE SA students were in their possession.

“These devices were obtained at different times through investigations that were not related to each other and not related to the TAFE SA data breach,” police said.

“As a result of identifying the link between the devices, SAPOL are continuing to investigate this matter in order to identify the source of the data.

“SAPOL has assisted TAFE SA to accurately identify all students whose data was located on the devices.”

SA Police urges anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
