After settling in at Celtic’s training ground at Lennoxtown, Sinisalo has expressed immense respect for Schmeichel, describing the experience of working alongside the seasoned Denmark international as invaluable.

The two keepers arrived in Glasgow in the summer, with Sinisalo joining Celtic from Aston Villa for £1 million.

At a recent event hosted by JD Sports in their Glasgow store on Argyle Street, Sinisalo shared his admiration for Schmeichel, who has quickly become a key figure for Celtic since his arrival.

“Kasper, for instance, someone I’ve always looked up to, watched on the telly, he’s been a bit of an idol of mine since I’ve watched Football in the Premier League.

“The level of respect I have for him, I can’t really put it into words. A brilliant goalkeeper, he still is to this day and has had an unbelievable career.

“You can see on the matchday how big he is for the team, and he’s someone I’m obviously looking forward to learning from however long he’s here for. It’s been really good, which has been brilliant as well with me. There’s a plan, and I’ve always enjoyed training with both of them.”

The Finnish stopper has yet to play a comPetitive minute for Celtic. Some had thought that Brendan Rodgers would give him some minutes in the Premier Sports Cup, but he opted to remain with Schmeichel between the sticks.

Sinisalo will get his minutes this season, he might have to wait until the Scottish Cup but he’s a player that Brendan Rodgers brought to the club to challenge to be number 1 in the future, and to do that he needs some minutes.

Schmeichel has a one-year deal at the Hoops, with an option of another, so having a young keeper already in the holding who can take over whenever the Dane calls it a day is great.
