The reason why Garrett Wilson’s epic catch was a touchdown: The rule explained
The New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson (5) catched a pass for a touchdown as Houston Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter (4) defended during the second half of an Thursday NFL Football Game between the New York Jets and the Houston Texans.
Everything would sound ordinary if you read it, but you would have to see it with your own eyes to believe the execution of the catch in the Red Zone.
Garrett Wilson spotted the ball heading his way and did everything possible to catch it.
With a remarkable one-handed catch, the star wide receiver gave the New York Jets the lead, leaving everyone watching—both in the stadium and at home—stunned.
Why was the umpire’s decision a touchdown?
With the Jets facing a third-and-19 from the Texans' 26-yard line, Aaron Rodgers threw the ball toward Wilson in the end zone. Wilson displayed his athleticism, resembling the iconic Michael Jordan “Jumpman” logo, as he leaped to catch the pass with both legs spread wide. He landed inside the end zone, securing the touchdown.
A video replay review confirmed that Wilson‘s shin touched down in the end zone, leading to the Jets’ award of a touchdown, which gave them a 14-10 lead with 12:54 remaining in the fourth quarter.
This marked Wilson’s second one-handed touchdown grab against the Texans; earlier, he had caught a less-spectacular but still impressive 21-yard touchdown in the third quarter, bringing the score to 7-7.
