'The Legend of Maula Jatt' set for India release
Amid the flourishing cultural programmes in the provincial capital, the elections for the executive body of the Pakistan Film Producers Association became a major highlight.
The Shining Lollywood group dominated the elections held at the Punjabi Complex, securing 14 seats with a resounding 97% of the votes. Chief Election Commissioner Arshad Warraich announced the results, revealing that key winners included Shehzad Rafiq (44 votes), Rabia Hassan (43), Masood Butt (44), and Safdar Malik (43), among others.
Participants expressed optimism about revitalizing Pakistan's film industry and restoring its former glory following the elections.
In another significant cultural event, a special evening was organized to honor Qaiser Sanaaullah Khan, Chairman of the Punjab Producer Artist Theatre Association, for his outstanding contributions to stage productions. The event, held at Tamaseel Theatre, celebrated Sanaaullah Khan's production of 300 stage plays and his work as a writer, producer, and director for 21 performances. Distinguished guests from the political, social, and Entertainment sectors, including Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting's advisor Khurram Naqvi, participated in the event.
Performances by actors like Ayaan Akhtar and Maryam Ali lit up the evening. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Tamaseel Theatre staff and performers.
The two-day Kids Carnival at Alhamra Arts Council concluded with a grand display of fun and Educational activities. The festival attracted a large number of children and families, featuring pupPet shows, magic performances, storytelling, gaming zones, and live face painting. Executive Director Sarah Rasheed hailed the event as a historic first for Alhamra, emphasizing its success in creating cherished memories for families. The carnival aimed to encourage artistic engagement among children while portraying a positive image of Pakistan globally.
The Punjab Arts Council, under Executive Director Ghulam Sagheer Shahid, has intensified its efforts to curb obscenity and vulgarity in theaters across the province.
Ravi Theatre in Bahawalpur, Noor Theatre in Rahim Yar Khan, Sitara Theatre and Tamaseel Theatre in Lahore, and several others have faced strict action, with show-cause notices issued to offending artists. Letters have also been sent to local deputy commissioners urging a ban on dancers involved in inappropriate performances. Shahid reaffirmed the council's zero-tolerance policy towards indecency in theaters.
The blockbuster Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Hamza Ali Abbasi, is set for its Indian cinema release on October 2.
Producer Amara Hikmat confirmed the much-anticipated release, saying the film has garnered global acclaim, and now fans in Indian Punjab will also have the chance to enjoy this Punjabi hit.
Renowned film director Altaf Hussain, known for his contributions to Pakistani cinema over half a century, passed away due to a cardiac arrest. With over 80 films to his credit, including Dahi Rani and Sala Sahib, Hussain leaves behind a rich legacy.
His passing has left the film industry in mourning, with directors like Parvez Kaleem and Syed Noor offering heartfelt condolences.
