McGregor was central to the Bhoys’ nine-in-a-row and quadruple treble successes and has only improved since taking up his role as club captain.

The 31-year-old is an exemplary leader who pushes elite standards at Celtic both on and off the park.

After a sensational start to the campaign in which he has scored several screamers, the midfielder is now preparing to lead the Celts into the UEFA Champions League for the third season running.

Europe’s premier club comPetition is where it all began for McGregor in green and white.

Indeed, he made his debut in the early qualifying rounds of the Champions League under the stewardship of Ronny Deila.

McGregor scored the winner on his senior Celtic debut away at KR Rekyavijk and has revealed the ultimate sacrifice his family made following it.

“The Game against Reykjavik was as big a turning point you can get really,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“Your first team debut and early rounds of the Champions League. You want to make an impact and be remembered because a lot of people come through and have five or six Games then it doesn’t materialise into the way they first planned it would.

“My parents stayed up until 4am to welcome me back when I first got back from the Game. It was a brilliant family moment.”

McGregor is desperate to make more Champions League memories on Wednesday against Bratislava.

His side will aim to start their European campaign perfectly by getting off to a flying start against the Slovakians.

It will be a tricky clash, but Brendan Rodgers’ men have been in fine fettle this campaign, winning six from six in all comPetitions. They will look to take such form into the continental scene.
