Sturm Graz Right-back to Consult Celtic Pals Before Facing Borussia Dortmund
Sturm Graz right-back Max Johnston will consult his friends from Celtic before he faces Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League this evening.
Johnston moved to Austria from Motherwell last summer and has thrived since doing so. He has been called up for Scotland and played in all three of UEFA’s European comPetitions, as well as winning a domestic double with his club in 2023/24.
As he and his teaMMAtes prepare to Travel to face Dortmund on matchday four of the Champions League, the 20-year-old has admitted he will consult some of the Bhoys after their match against the Bundesliga outfit.
He said [RecordSport]: “Obviously, you see how good Celtic are, and then obviously against Borussia Dortmund, that was the score [7-1].
“That just shows you how good Dortmund are. It’s going to be a tough Game, but that’s the level you want to be playing at week in, week out. That’s where you want to be.
“I’ll maybe give some of them (the Celtic boys) texts in a little while and find out a wee bit more about them.”
Celtic had a terrible off-night when they faced Dortmund at the beginning of last month.
Nothing went right for the Bhoys, but everything clicked for the Germans.
The Hoops will hope that is reversed this evening when RB Leipzig comes to Parkhead.
Brendan Rodgers masterminded a famous European victory over the Red Bulls in 2018, a feat he will look to repeat tonight.
Marco Rose’s side haven’t yet got a point on the board in the league phase so far this campaign, and tonight’s match is like a ‘cup final’ for them, according to forward Andre Silva.
Perhaps that could play into Celtic’s hands in front of a sold-out Paradise.
