I have admitted in the past that I am not an avid skier. I am more of a snowmobile fan. Growing up my family did a little bit of skiing when we lived in Washington State but after that trips to the slope were few and far between.

When I was growing up going to a ski slope meant you were going skiing. Now I realize there is much more to do depending on the hill you visit. There is downhill skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and some spots even have cross country. Many places now are also destinations for weekend stays and culinary treats.

So whether you want a craft beer at the ski lodge or just a trip down the hill for fun I have found some great places that are close by where you can pick your budget and your downhill enjoyment.

Places like Hunter Mountain and Belleayre Mountain can be great spots for a weekend getaway. If you want to just head out for the day then plan a trip to Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park or head to Thunder Ridge.

Plattekill Mountain is the last family-owned ski area in the Northern Catskills and they are up and running ready for holiday skiing. If you don't ski but are looking for some winter fun check out Catamount Mountain. They offer tubing plus year-round fun. They are home to North America's longest Zipline tour that you can plan to visit after the thaw in 2025.
