The Jaguars lost their first two Games this year but recovered with wins over Northwestern State and App State. Following losses to LSU and Arkansas State, south Alabama beat Troy and LA-Monroe before another loss to Georgia Southern.

In their last outing versus Louisiana, the Jags were outscored 19-0 in the second half but managed to hang on for the win 24-22 in the end. Gio Lopez threw for 285 yards and an interception but did have two rush scores. Jamaal Pritchett caught 11 balls for 170 yards as the lead receiver.

Over on the Southern Miss side, they won just one of their first nine Games (SE Louisiana). Otherwise it was losses to Kentucky, USF, Jacksonville State, Louisiana, LA-Monroe, Arkansas State, James Madison and Marshall to start the season.

On Saturday in the Texas State Game, the Eagles were down 34-3 by halftime and it only got worse from there in a 58-3 blowout loss. Tate Rodemaker threw for just 63 yards and a pick. Rodrigues Clark led the rush on 15 carries for 66 yards.

I’ll stay with South Alabama, but the line’s probably too thick to mess with. The Jaguars skidded to a scoreboard stop in the second half on Saturday but still managed to beat a good Louisiana squad on the road. South Alabama went just 4-of-11 on third downs with two turnovers and eight penalties, so there’s plenty to clean up on offense. The defense held the Cajuns to just 4-of-13 on third-down tries with two takeaways, though.

As for Southern Miss, they’re coming off a rough defeat at the hands of a decent Texas State team. The Eagles coughed up a whopping 703 yards (437 passing), 33 first downs and 10.7 yards per play in that one. Offensively they could only muster 194 yards (124 rushing) and 2.8 yards per play. Southern Miss has been outscored 85-6 over their last two Games, so South Alabama should have every opportunity to post points on Saturday.
