Sir Jim Ratcliffe reveals which Man Utd legend he would want in current team
Manchester United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has picked Paul Scholes as the club legend the current team would benefit from having.
Ratcliffe completed the purchase of a 28% stake in United last month and has already spoken at length with the media about his grand plans for the club.
He most recently appeared on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast, discussing a range of topics including stadium plans and why transfer plans do not include Kylian Mbappe.
Ratcliffe, a boyhood United fan, was also asked which former player he would bring back and stick in Erik ten Hag's team.
"Paul Scholes is the one I'd bring in," he replied.
"I think that's the player that they're most missing. They have a couple of players who, they're not Roy Keane, but can play defensive midfield like Casemiro and [Kobbie] Mainoo. But they don't have a Paul Scholes or an [Andres] Iniesta-type player."
Scholes made 718 appearances for United across two spells from 1994 to 2013, scoring 155 goals and winning 25 trophies. He also earned 66 caps for England and is widely considered one of the best midfielders of his generation.
Ratcliffe was further quizzed on who he believes United's best ever player is, reserving praise for two icons in particular.
"The greatest to have ever played for United? Probably Ronaldo I guess. I would think Cristiano Ronaldo," he added.
"George Best was, I suppose, probably the most naturally gifted player I have ever seen play Football."
Ronaldo and Best are two of only four players to have won the Ballon d'Or while playing for United, featuring on an exclusive list which also features Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton.
