AM General Reveals Humvee Saber Reinforced Security

AM General has revealed its latest innovation, the Humvee Saber Reinforced Security. This new iteration marks a significant evolution of the iconic High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), promising enhanced mobility, superior protection, and modernized payload capabilities. The Humvee Saber represents a complete redesign, offering increased levels of protection within a truly agile light tactical vehicle. One of its standout features is the redefined survivability, achieved through comprehensive measures including 360 kinetic energy threat protection, under-vehicle blast threat protection, blast seats, and transparent armor. Transportability is another key aspect, with the Saber Reinforced Security designed for deployment via highway, rail, marine, and air transport, ensuring its readiness for rapid deployment in various operational scenarios.

Unlike its predecessor, the original HMMWV, the Saber Reinforced Security integrates protection deeply into its base design, employing a patented steel monocoque cell at its core, augmented by an off-set W shape at the bottom. This innovative design effectively diverts blast energy away from the crew, ensuring their safety in hostile environments. Leveraging the proven HUMVEE 13-Series chassis, the Saber ensures maximum commonality, simplified maintenance, and streamlined fleet sustainment, making it a cost-effective choice for Military operations. the Humvee Saber boasts a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 6,396 kg (14,100 lb) and is powered by a 205 hp 6.5L V8 turbocharged diesel engine coupled with a 4-speed electronically controlled transmission. Its powertrain features a 2-speed transfer case, providing both high and low gearing options for diverse terrain. With a fuel capacity of 95 L (25 gal) and a range of 402 km (250 miles), the Saber ensures sustained operations even in remote locations.

In a strategic collaboration with Elta North America, AM General has integrated the Modular Anti-Drone System – Kit (MADSK) On The Move (OTM) Defense in Depth onto the Humvee Saber Reinforced Security. This system is designed to effectively counter Group 1-3 UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) threats by conducting Detect, Track, ID, and Deter/Defeat operations while operating at maneuver speed, enhancing the vehicle’s defensive capabilities against modern aerial threats. Through a partnership with IMMI, AM General has integrated the MBrace® system into the Humvee Saber. This innovative airbag system, integrated into a multi-point seat belt, provides rapid protection to soldiers’ heads and necks, significantly reducing the risk of injury in combat situations. Additionally, AM General has collaborated with ArmorWorks to integrate ArmorVision™ and Advanced Modular Blast Seats into the Saber Reinforced Security.

Safety features include an optional Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and traction control, enhancing the vehicle’s maneuverability and stability in various conditions. Furthermore, the Humvee Saber Reinforced Security is equipped with a dual voltage electrical system (14V/28V) to support a wide range of electronic devices and equipment. Externally, the vehicle can be fitted with an optional turret ring for mounting weapons and features a rear access door for ease of entry and exit. Its mobility is ensured by a heavy-duty suspension system and impressive angles of approach, departure, and ramp breakover, along with exceptional grade and side slope capabilities. With a vertical obstacle clearance of 30.5 cm (12 in), the Saber Reinforced Security can navigate challenging terrain with ease.
