Celtic’s win over St Mirren was a Game of two halves for Brendan Rodgers’ side as they finally broke down the stubborn Buddies in the 3-0 Parkhead win.

The first half was a drab affair as Celtic failed to test St Mirren’s keeper by not making a single shot on target as they battled against swirling winds.

It looked like it was going to be one of those days for Brendan Rodgers but a half-time chat with the players sparked Celtic into life and two quick goals after the break set the Bhoys on to record a comfortable win and go four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

But it was what Alistair Johnston did at Kyogo Furuhashi‘s goal that had Simon Donnelly waxing lyrical about the Canadian international fullback.

Alistair Johnston compared to Manchester United legend

Donnelly was casting his eye over Celtic’s performance and whilst he was full of praise for Kyogo’s movement, the former Hoops striker agreed that the cross he made was very much like David Beckham in his pomp at Manchester United.

Donnelly said [Celtic TV], “You can almost say that the wee guy [Kyogo] can’t miss but it’s a great ball in from Alistair Johnston.

“You [Gerry McCulloch] said ‘Beckham-esque’, it wasn’t far off that. It just works out to the right-hand side here and Kyogo doesn’t do much.

“He’s just taken up a position in there knowing that if a ball comes in, he’s going to try and get on the end of it.

“He goes forward, he drifts off him nicely there. That’s where he comes alive. He sees that the ball is going to come in and it’s a simple cushioned but it is all in the cross.”

The cross by Johnston was sublime. It was right on top of Kyogo who just knew where to be as the ball was delivered by his teaMMAte.

It’s great to see the popular fullback getting back to his best as he has struggled to recapture the form he delivered when he first made his debut for Celtic back in January 2023.

With just five Games left to go, the Celtic fans will be delighted that Johnston is getting back to his best as Brendan Rodgers looks to close in on his third Scottish title.
