According to The Independent, fisherman Cai Chengzhu in Xiangzhi County in Fujian caught this giant fish over the weekend. It is 4.8 m long and weighs 2 tons.

Mr. Cai took this fish to the market. A photo of a giant fish on a car caused a stir on Sina Weibo.

Mr Cai said the “giant creature” bit into his net to eat the fish inside and got stuck. Then he died. Mr. Cai plans to sell the fish for 10,000-20,000 yuan ($1,618-3,237) at the Xiangzhi wholesale market.

However, Fujian authorities intervened and confiscated this giant fish. Because whale sharks are rare and endangered marine species, protected by law. The whale shark trade in China is illegal.

Whale sharks can live up to 100 years, reaching a length of 5.5 to 10 m. Therefore, the fish that Cai fisherman caught was just an iMMAture whale shark.
