The world of motorsports is in mourning after the tragic passing of Scott Bloomquist. Known for his incredible list of feats on the track, Bloomquist was also equally accomplished off of it as he overcame a number of challenges both physical and personal.

Scott Bloomquist dies in plane crash

According to reports on Friday, dirt track legend Scott Bloomquist was killed in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee on Friday morning. Originally reported by the Rogersville Review shortly after 8:30 a.m., details indicate that local authorities confirmed that Bloomquist was “involved in a small aircraft crash.”

A Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Bloomquist is widely regarded as one of the greatest Dirt Late Model drivers of all time, and truth be told his list of achievements leaves no room for debate. Indeed, with a list of wins and titles that is extensive, to say the least, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that on more than one occasion he was named Driver of the Year. Yet, it was not just Bloomquist’s daredevil attitude behind the wheel that wowed fans, but rather his infectious, larger-than-life personality that endeared him to Dirt Late Model fans across the nation.

Frankly, it was that persona that saw him overcome several injuries and ailments in recent years including a leg injury suffered in a motorcycle crash, prostate cancer, a foot injury suffered before the 2023 Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway, and shoulder surgery prior to the 2024 season. There was even a “bizarre experience” recently which saw him hospitalized after a horsefly bite. Sadly, fans will now be left with nothing but memories. Bloomquist, much like his father before him is known to have enjoyed flying vintage airplanes and even maintained a collection which was showcased during the Road to Eldora in 2022. He was 60 years old.
