Numerous high-profile players have turned out for Celtic over the years.

Former England number one Joe Hart just spent three impactful seasons in Glasgow while the likes of Robbie Keane, Freddie Ljunberg, and Ian Wright have all had spells North of the border.

Perhaps one of the most notable men of this category to have graced the hallowed Parkhead turf, though, is Roy Keane.

The Irishman spent six months in Glasgow at the end of the 2005/06 season as his career ended.

He won the league title with the Bhoys, being predominantly remembered for his outstanding display at Ibrox in a 1-0 Glasgow derby victory a month after he signed.

Now, though, the pundit has admitted he had other offers at the time.

Indeed, Footballing giants Real Madrid were in for Keane, but instead, he surprisingly decided to join the Hoops.

“When I left United, I went up to Celtic, but I could have gone to Real Madrid”, he said (The Overlap).

“They offered me a year and a half, and I was like, Celtic was an emotional (move).”

Somewhat of a ‘blue-chip' signing at the time, Keane arrived in Glasgow to much fanfare.

His spell at Celtic wasn't full of prosperity, but he ended his career on a high having won the Hoops their first of three league titles in a row under Gordon Strachan.
