Real Madrid president's hilarious response when asked about Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies deals
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez joked he did not know who Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies were when asked for transfer updates by fans.
Mbappe and Davies are Madrid's two priority transfer targets for the summer window. The former is available on a free transfer with his PSG contract expiring at the end of the season though an agreement over lucrative personal terms have not yet been reached, while the latter has one year left on his Bayern Munich deal.
Madrid are known to make their admiration of players they wish to buy public, but Perez reversed this stance when most recently quizzed by supporters over their plans to bring in Mbappe and Davies.
While posing for photographs, one fan told Perez: "You have to bring Davies!"
Perez deadpan replied: "Davies? Who is Davies?"
After Perez broke into a small chuckle afterwards, another supporter said: "With Davies and Mbappe, we are going to win everything!"
Once again, Perez's retort was simple: "Who is Mbappe?"
PSG have been preparing for life after Mbappe, with manager Luis Enrique substituting him early in each of their last two Ligue 1 matches. He played the full 90 minutes of their midweek Champions League win at Real Sociedad, scoring a fine brace in a 2-1 victory to send his side into the quarter-finals.
Despite this recent string of substitutions, Mbappe has insisted he does not have a problem with Enrique or his management.
Davies, meanwhile, recently made his return from a liGament injury and helped Bayern into the last eight of the Champions League, with his side overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit to overcome Lazio. The Canadian came off the bench for the final 12 minutes of their 3-0 triumph in midweek back at the Allianz Arena.
Madrid are also in the hat for the quarter-finals despite a subpar second-leg showing against RB Leipzig, drawing 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu and progressing 2-1 on aggregate.
