Rare Poor Game from Celtic’s Mr Reliable

Celtic were left frustrated after squandering a two-goal lead against Aberdeen in a dramatic encounter at Celtic Park on Saturday. What should have been a relatively comfortable victory for the Hoops turned into a disappointing draw, as Aberdeen fought back to share the points in this top-of-the-table clash.

Going into the Game, many predicted a tightly contested match, but after Celtic went 2-0 up, it seemed as though Brendan Rodgers’ men would see out the result with ease. However, Aberdeen had other ideas, coming out in the second half with renewed determination and a point to prove. By the time the final whistle blew, the Dons could have snatched all three points themselves, but ultimately, Celtic will be kicking themselves for not securing the win.

One of the more surprising aspects of the match was Daizen Maeda’s performance. The Japanese winger, who has been in excellent form under Rodgers this season, appeared jaded and uncharacteristically off the pace. Known for his relentless energy and willingness to chase down lost causes, Maeda struggled to make his usual impact and was eventually substituted for James Forrest as Celtic pushed for a winner.

Maeda’s dip may well be down to the fatigue from his recent international duties with Japan. The extensive Travel and Game time seem to have taken a toll, and it was evident that he wasn’t able to hit his usual high gear. This off day was a rare sight for a player who has been pivotal for Celtic, not only this season but also in last year’s title run.

Celtic fans will be hoping Maeda shakes off the tiredness ahead of their midweek clash against Atalanta. His pace and work rate will be crucial if the Hoops are to get a positive result against the Serie A side, and they’ll be counting on him to rediscover his spark.

For now, though, the result against Aberdeen serves as a reminder that there’s still work to be done for Rodgers and his squad if they are to maintain their grip at the top of the table.
