Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor may have been enduring punishing workouts for his upcoming appearance in the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana, but in the eyes of Bollywood Indian fans, the film is already doomed. As the first peek of Ranbir’s Ram leaked on X, scathing comments tearing the project to pieces came barrelling through.

Deliver damning judgment, one unimpressed fan minced no words as they tweeted, “Horrible casting.” By no means a lone voice of dissent, the thread was awash with comments labelling Ranbir and co-star Sai Pallavi “Bollywood thugs” and tweets hoping the upcoming film “flops”.

One stunned user was lost for words besides “Yikes”, whereas another disgruntled fan noted, “Both lack the grace to carry the role.”

Many compared the upcoming Ramayana to Adipurush, another mythological production released in 2023. “Lessons not learned,” penned one keyboard warrior. “Prayers to producers.”

Thinking along the same lines, another user felt that Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan would have been a better choice, and predicted, “It will bomb bigger than Adipurush.”

Others yet vowed they would boycott the film when it came out, listing a barrage of reasons. “Pathetic cast and make up and costume design,” captioned yet another irked fan. “Not going to watch this movie at all.”

With not a single uplifting comment in sight, one other user added, “Please shelve this movie or cast someone better.” Quick to note that there was nothing wrong with Ranbir per se, the commenter added, “Ranbir is undoubtedly a good actor, but he’s not suiting here.”

Others, however, were less forgiving. “Boycott any movie in which Ranbir is portrayed as Ram,” wrote one commenter. “Total boycott.”

Yet another hardcore film fan noted that for a mythological epic, it was unwise to cast Bollywood superstars. “People connect with unknown faces,” wrote the fan.

With the film expecting to hit the big screens in 2025, it remains to be seen whether the same enraged fans will stay true to their promises of a boycott, or stick around to deliver equally damning reviews next year.
