Penfolds collaborates with NIGO once again, this time to reimagine the iconic and beloved Grange.

To most, the realms of fashion and fine wine may not resemble a natural pairing. Yet when famed Australian wine producer Penfolds officiated their multi-year creative partnership with Japanese streetwear maven NIGO last year, the intersection between the two proved a delight to the palate. On the heels of the pair’s lauded debut collaboration, One by Penfolds, follows the latest addition to the duo’s endeavour – the Grange by NIGO.

The Penfolds Grange by NIGO gift box to house the 750ml (1,500 available) and 1.5l (150 available) bottles.

The Grange by NIGO line bookmarks a momentous milestone as the first-ever design takeover of Penfolds’ flagship wine, Grange, as the brand celebrates its 180th anniversary year. While the world of wine-making is often steeped in age-old tradition, Penfolds boasts an illustrious History paved by its pioneering spirit and strive for innovation since its early days.

To the unacquainted, the Penfolds Grange expression was in fact born out of a novel approach to winemaking spearheaded by the wine producer’s first chief winemaker, Max Schubert. With an unbroken line of vintages since 1951, the signature wine style today holds its place not only as a heritage icon of South Australia, but also counts itself as one of the world’s most collected wines.

The Grange reimagined by NIGO is a perfect toast to Penfolds’ long standing legacy as a cultural iconoclast. In the pair’s second outing, the creative director of streetwear label Human Made and artistic director of Kenzo lends his artistic flair to propel the luxury wine makers further onto the global stage.

“I have been a collector of Grange for many years, but it wasn’t until I visited Penfolds Magill Estate that I truly understood the craftsmanship and History behind the historic wine. It was an honour to be the first person to collaborate on a design for Grange, especially as the brand celebrates its 180th anniversary,” said NIGO.

The Grange by NIGO lineup includes collectable 750ml (1,500 available) and 1.5L (150 available) gift boxes to house the 2019 Grange. In place of the core design, the limited edition boxes pay an ode to the single most important ingredient in wine-making – grapes. Each box Sports a discerning graphic grape framed by typography rendered in NIGO’s signature aesthetic at Human Made. NIGO’s streetwear DNA is further imbued into the collection with the accompaniment of a bandana and bottle neck tag. As most works of art come, each box from the collection is also individually numbered.

Not stopping there, the multi-hyphenate has also designed a silk rug for the series. Handwoven and silk dyed by artisans in Nepal, the rug elevates the distinguishable graphic appeal of the gift boxes fit for the bar into luxurious soft furnishing for a home. With only 25 pieces available worldwide, the rugs rank as high in exclusivity as a bottle of vintage Grange.

With one stellar collection following on the heels of another, the future of Penfolds’ multi-year long tie-up with NIGO promises to be as recognisable and rich as the wine producer’s libations itself.

Penfolds’ Grange by NIGO is available globally from Thursday, 22 February 2024. For stockist information and more details visit penfolds.com.
