Magic at Mavericks picks and predictions
Prediction
Mavericks 113, Magic 102
Moneyline
PASS.
Without Banchero, the Magic struggle offensively. I expect the Mavericks (-350) to win and cover, but I’ll place my bet on the spread.
Against the spread
BET MAVERICKS -8.5 (-105).
Last season, the Mavericks were 2-0 straight up against Orlando, though they went 1-1 ATS. The Magic come into this matchup a bit battered, and will be without top scorer Banchero for the foreseeable future. Without him, Orlando struggled to find its footing and enough scoring options in their loss to Cleveland, and his defensive presence is missed as well.
At this early stage in the season, both teams have had uneven performances, but Dallas seems closer to gaining momentum. With Irving and Doncic forming one of the league’s premier guard tandems, they’re a solid foundation while other Mavericks step up to support. Dallas also has an edge in the paint with Carter dealing with injuries. The Mavs, who are 8-2 SU in the last 10 against Orlando and 3-2-1 ATS in their last 6 at home, could capitalize on the matchup inside to secure a win.
Over/Under
BET UNDER 221.5 (-110).
In their 2 meetings last season, the Magic and Mavericks split the total, averaging a combined 239.5 points. However, both teams enter this matchup with struggling offenses. Orlando has averaged just 104 points over their last 2 games, while Dallas has managed 111 points per game this week. The Mavericks have hit the Under in 3 of their last 4 contests.
Both teams rank in the bottom half for possessions per Game, with Orlando sitting 22nd (103.3) and Dallas at 25th (101.5). The absence of Banchero significantly impacts Orlando’s scoring, while Dallas continues to lean heavily on the scoring prowess of Irving and Doncic. Given these circumstances, it’s likely we’ll see a lower-scoring affair, as both teams may struggle to generate consistent offense.
