New York House on the Market for Over a Year Gets a New Look

It has been just over a year since I first discovered a house in Sullivan County that you can buy and turn into a family retreat. The house at 935 Starlight Road in Monticello, New York offers lakefront living with seclusion tucked away but close to Bethel Woods and Resorts World Catskills.

Back last February when I first saw it for sale I thought this would be a great place for a family to have a house they could enjoy year-round. I realize not all of us can afford a place like this but as I like to say the day you can you want to have done the research. I actually keep a list.

What I liked about revisiting this house that is still on the market is that it seems the real estate agent may be helping a potential buyer reimage the home's interior. If you have ever sold a house then you know the realtor often asks you to clear out clutter, bake cookies before an open house, and try to make the home what I call under-stylized.

Believe it or not, some buyers will have trouble seeing beyond your decor and the trouble with that is if they don't like your style they don't like the house. I am familiar with this because I tend to have an extremely eclectic side when it comes to interior decorating and every time I have sold a house I have had to pack away a lot of stuff before the first showing.

Since I first posted this home it looks like this listing may be helping people image the house in a more modern style. The house is only 24 years old but the draperies may not be everyone's choice. It is not clear from the listing if the house has been restyled inside for real or if it is an AI realtor trick where you get to see the rooms with other furniture. Either way, you get to see the difference.
