Weeks 1 and 2 of the college Football season are in the books. We have already witnessed a huge result, as Texas went into Alabama and took down the Crimson Tide this past Saturday night.  

Now it’s time to turn our attention to Week 3. This slate isn’t exactly loaded, but there are still plenty of intriguing matchups. It includes Tennessee at Florida, South Carolina at Georgia and Colorado State at Colorado. The opening lines were released at most Sportsbooks on Sunday, so let’s take a look at these openers and give our first impressions.

Best early bets for NCAAF Week 3

Mississippi State +9 (-110) over LSU

LSU has played 1 tough game so far this season and it did not go well, losing 35-24 to LSU. Mississippi State is undefeated and coming off a 31-24 victory over Arizona. Quarterback Will Rogers has 5 passing touchdowns and no interceptions so far. The crowd will undoubtedly be raucous for the Bulldogs’ SEC opener and I will happily back them when they are getting more than a touchdown.  

Maryland -14.5 (-110) over Virginia

It would be nice if the line was 2 touchdowns or fewer, but nonetheless there is a good chance Maryland wins this by at least 20 points. Virginia is horrible. That was expected to be the case before this season began and it has already been confirmed following just 2 weeks of play. The Cavaliers were humiliated 49-13 by Tennessee and then lost to James Madison 36-35. Led by Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland boasts 1 of the best offenses in the Big Ten, so it is a team that should have no trouble covering big spreads against bad opponents.

Colorado -23 (-110) vs Colorado State

Colorado State has become a disastrous football program. Dating back to 2018, the Rams’ best season is 4-8. They won just a single game during the 2020 Covid season and other than that it has just been a whole bunch of 3-9 efforts. CSU lost by 26 points to Washington State in its 2023 opener and Washington State sure isn’t Colorado. I can’t say I’m entirely on the Buffs’ bandwagon quite yet like basically the entire rest of the nation, but I do think they will absolutely destroy the Rams.
