Moment of Silence to Be Observed at Celtic’s Champions League Clash with RB Leipzig
A moment of silence will be held before tonight’s Champions League game at Celtic Park, where Celtic host RB Leipzig, in memory of the victims of the devastating flooding in Valencia, Spain.
UEFA has instructed all clubs comPeting in UEFA comPetitions this week to observe this tribute, honouring the lives lost in the tragedy.
The floods have claimed at least 217 lives, with many more individuals still unaccounted for. Most fatalities occurred in the Valencia region, including over 60 in the suburb of Paiporta. Among the deceased are a British couple. [Reuters]
Two Games were cancelled in Spain, but Carlo Ancelotti said that all Games should’ve been postponed.
His Real Madrid side was supposed to Travel to Valencia, whereas Villareal was set to host Rayo Vallecano, but these Games were postponed after a request to the governing body. [BBC]
In a statement on their website, UEFA shared: “UEFA will hold a moment of silence at all UEFA club comPetition matches this week in memory of the victims of the deadly floods in Valencia and all those impacted in the region and beyond.”
Celtic Park’s moment of silence will allow players, staff, and fans to unite in solidarity with those affected by the disaster.
With more rain set to hit the country in the coming days, hopefully, there will be no more fatalities and the Spanish people can start the tough job of getting themselves back up and on their feet.
