The Mexico national team continues to prepare for the year ahead, and in the absence of World Cup qualifiers, the mission is to organise matches against top-level opponents. With a view to the 2026 World Cup, which the country will host along with the United States and Canada, El Tri have already scheduled two friendlies for September.

According to information from TUDN reporter Girbán Araige, Mexico will face Canada in Dallas and New Zealand in Los Angeles on 7 and 10 September, respectively. The national team’s journey would therefore continue in the United States, as these two matches will be played after the Copa América, which will also be played in the US.

Mexico already knows what it’s like to face New Zealand, against whom they have six wins and only one defeat, which was a 4-0 drubbing in 1980. The last time El Tri faced New Zealand was at the 2017 Confederations Cup, where the Aztecs triumphed 2-1 at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi. Against Canada, Mexico has 21 wins, eight draws and six defeats in a total of 35 matches. The most recent meeting between the teams was in the run-up to Qatar 2022, when Canada won 2-1 in Edmonton.
