It’s been a challenging start to the season for Luis Palma, struggling for minutes but also clearly struggling for confidence.

20th April 2024; Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland: Scottish Cup Football Semi Final, Aberdeen versus Celtic; Luis Palma of Celtic celebrates

He’s played just three times this season, twice in the league. At the weekend against Hearts, he set up a goal, but was ruled out because the winger was offside.

Despite this, Julio Cesar de Leon, a former Honduran international, has expressed confidence in Palma’s ability to reclaim a spot in Brendan Rodgers’ starting lineup.

Speaking to El Heraldo, de Leon said that Palma has been recovering from a minor injury, which has impacted his ability to comPete for a starting position.

De Leon advised Palma to strengthen his physical condition through additional gym work to enhance his balance and overall fitness.

He said: “The boy has been recovering from a little knock, let’s hope he gets his act together so he can return to the starting lineup. It’s difficult to return to the starting lineup when you get injured, you have enough ability to do so, you have to put in a little more aggression, because today you have to know how to kick, earn respect. The rest, he has the technical quality, the physical part he is uNBAlanced, he has to do a little more gym, when he manages to get that he will be a starter wherever he is.”

There’s no doubting Palma’s quality when he shows up. He showed last season that he can score and assist, but there are other elements on his all round play that need a lot of improvement.

CeltsAreHere were aware of interest in the player this summer, but he had made it clear that he wanted to stay at the Scottish champions and fight for a place. The mentality is there from him; he just needs to take any opportunity he gets on the pitch.
