The Belgian joined the Hoops in a deal worth £11m on transfer deadline day.

Engels came in the door with high expectations but has lived up to them already.

He netted from the spot in a crucial league win against Hearts a few weeks ago before starting in the Championship League last Wednesday.

The 21-year-old scored one and set up another versus Slovan Bratislava on matchday one before coming off the bench to assist Nicolas Kuhn for a vital goal against Falkirk on Sunday.

The sky is the limit for young Engels, who has fans already forgetting about Matt O’Riley.

McGregor has been taken aback by his ability and recently lifted the lid on what he first thought of him.

“I seen him [Engels] on the first day and I thought ‘He’s a player, he can play’,” revealed the Hoops captain (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“You have to still go and deliver when the Game kicks off.

“[He’s a] young player, experienced for his age, but to come into a club this size and take two penalties in the first two Games [is impressive].

“He’s looked a real powerhouse, he’s looked good on the ball.

“For him to come in and hit the ground running the way he has done has been excellent for the team as well.”

Despite the hefty price tag associated with his signing, Engels looks to have been a wise buy from Celtic.

The club needed to fill the quality void vacated by O’Riley, and with the Belgium international, they look to have done just that.

He has already impressed in Glasgow, and at the tender age of 21, Engels is only going to improve.

Seeing how his Celtic career pans out should be nothing short of exciting.
