It has been a long summer for the Parkhead faithful to date, but over the past week, transfer activity in Glasgow’s east end has picked up.

Few can argue with the acquisition of Schmeichel. He has played at the top level, is experienced, and remains more than able between the sticks.

In the eyes of centre-back Liam Scales, he is the ideal replacement for the now-retired Joe Hart.

“If you could go and get a like-for-like for Joe, he’s (Schmeichel) the one”, he said (Celtic TV via Football Scotland).

“You’re losing out on an international and Premier League winner and then getting another one in.

“So look, we’re really looking forward to greeting him and bringing him in. Playing with him is going to be great, it’s going to be good.”

For the season ahead, Schmeichel will be Brendan Rodgers’ trusted number one.

Young Finnish ‘keeper Viljami Sinisalo will learn from the veteran and likely take the reigns in the coming years.

Celtic have carried out some shrewd Business with the signings of the two stoppers, but there is still a long way to go before the squad is looking primed and ready for another campaign.
