The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to make a series of big moves over the next few weeks as the NBA’s free agency period kicks into gear.

Because of how disappointing the squad looked in 2024 following their Western Conference bid one season prior, big roster alterations need to be made.

Hours after free agency commenced, L.A. immediately put four players up on the trade block. That wasn’t too shocking.

What surprised some folks, however, was the two players the organization decided to focus on re-signing.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Taurean Prince and Spencer Dinwiddie are the guys L.A. wants back.

“The team is interested in re-signing forward Taurean Prince, league sources told HoopsHype. Prince shot 39.6 percent from 3-point range for the Lakers and started 49 of 78 Games last season.

“Should Prince return to the Lakers, rival NBA executives project Prince to potentially command a deal somewhere in the range of two years and $11 million, which could be done by using his non-bird rights where the Lakers can offer a contract beginning at 120 percent of his salary from the previous season,” the report noted.

The same goes for Dinwiddie.

“Before signing with the Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks expressed significant interest in Dinwiddie once he became a free agent, as both teams valued his ability to penetrate off the dribble and guard on the perimeter,” the report added.

“Now, the Lakers and Mavericks are once again expected to have interest in Dinwiddie again as he enters free agency, league sources told HoopsHype.”

It will be interesting to see how much effort the Lakers put into re-signing these two. The organization has already made it clear that it won’t target a third star to play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and will instead aim to focus on four key role players.

If the emphasis is on building out a more balanced roster, and not simply a top-heavy one, then pursuing both Prince and Dinwiddie makes a lot of sense.

What will the Lakers’ roster ultimately look like when everything is said and done? Time will tell.
